Will I
still be able to vote if I move and don't change my address?
If
you move within 27 days of an election in the same precinct, you can
vote a full ballot at your same polling place after signing an
affidavit.
If
you move within 30 days before the election outside your precinct,
but still in the State, you can vote a full ballot at your old
polling place after signing an affidavit.
If you move within Will County more than 30
days before the election, you now have two choices:
1)
You may contact the County Clerk’s office
(815/740-4620)
to determine the location of your new polling place. At
your new polling place, you will be asked by an election judge to
fill out a special affidavit before being permitted to vote a full
Provisional ballot. After you vote, your ballot will not be placed
in the ballot counter. Instead, you will seal your ballot and place
it in a special Provisional envelope that will be returned to the
County Clerk’s office for verification. You may then visit our
website (Provisional
Ballot Results)
14 days after the election to find out whether or not your ballot
counted.
2)
You may vote in your old precinct for Federal offices ONLY
(President, Vice President, U.S. Senate and U.S. Congress) after
completing a fail-safe affidavit (C-6/Gray). This applies to
elections held in even-numbered years ONLY.
If
you move more than 30 days before the election out of your county,
you cannot vote.

Changed your
name?
If
you change your name and address, you must re-register to vote. A woman
who continues to use her maiden name after marriage may vote without
having to complete an affidavit if registered under her maiden name.
If
you change your name and remain registered in the same election
precinct, you may vote
in that election at your previously registered polling place by
completing an affidavit.
